Ever the artists who make me stop and take a moment to deeply introspect and listen to what’s on record, Carnival Mind’s exceptionally minimal yet ever so evocative brand of folk rock music has always found a fan in me. On ‘5am’, the outfit bring out a twelve string to once again deliver a wholly acoustic driven tune that’s anchored around a story and narrative that’s going to both keep you captivated and also have you introspecting. The chorus here might just be the most poignant and hard-hitting that they’ve delivered yet.
It feels like a phoenix of a theme, about burning everything down to ash and starting anew with a renewed sense of vigour and optimism about your day. If you haven’t already checked out this group, you’re missing out on some of the best acoustic story-telling music you’re going to hear in recent years.
Go stream ‘5am’, ‘Somewhere Down The Line’, ‘Shots’, and so much more by this ever so brilliant outfit.
