Dark, gloomy, yet somehow retaining a core essence that’s resplendent and hopeful, Monroe Moon’s distinctive bluesy pop blend on ¡GET UP! had me taking notice from the first few notes of the arrangement alone. The rather lengthy and drawn on out piece has a progression to it that builds in sections, moments, and themes over its six minute long duration. It has such a presence while listening, a commanding vocal performance that seizes your attention overlaid on a dark and dreamy soundscape that has you floating in your mind. Perhaps most intriguingly, it never hits a crescendo of catharsis that’s loud or opulent, choosing instead to retain this rather mellow and placating smoothness that keeps you entirely mesmerised in every moment.
A magnetic and bewitching piece of modern pop music that’s wildly eclectic and wholly immersive.
