‘At Times’ is just deliciously smooth from back to front. The jazz electronic instrumental record from Kristoffer Eikrem is background music or the soul, allowing you to relax, zone in, or just enjoy a beautiful day depending on whatever the need of the hour may be. The Oslo based creative whiz delivers buckets of instrumental mastery and creative juxtapositions by merging together lo-fi production styles with more classical lounge style jazz music to create a refreshingly calming and soothing journey that you’re just left entirely and completely blissfully relaxed by.
From the serene opener on ‘New Chapter’, there’s a much more up tempo yet still innately soothing energy exuded. As you move into ‘Days Go By’, the vibe switches to something much more hypnotic and blissful, a more slow moving roll of a tune that has you completely lying back in a state of magical lushness around the entirety of the production. It feels so entirely full and complete, delivering so many different moments in the arrangement that while rich, still feels restrained and reserved. A similar energy comes through on ‘Fridays’, while also having a kind of innocence and hopefulness that has you enjoying and thinking of the relaxation that the weekend has in store for you. But it’s perhaps on ‘Jam Session’ and ‘The Vibe You Need’ that I found myself most enamoured and locked in to ‘At Times’.
Overall, any lo-fi fan is bound to be delighted with this record. More than that though, it’s simple yet blissful exuberance is just immensely refreshing to steer yourself through.
