‘Cease and Desist’, a smorgasbord of ten indie rock tracks from JellyCopter is just pure and enjoyable fun from back to front. From the opening whistle on the titular track, ‘Cease and Desist’ this London based outfit immediately reel you in with infectious riffs and addictive chorus lines that are memorable and refreshing in equal measure. There’s nothing out there of too offbeat on this record, it’s a by the numbers point by point dartboard of good quality indie rock that nails the middle on each possible tune. There isn’t an indie rock fan who won’t find a tune or three to add to their favourite rock playlists.
What’s perhaps most unique or intriguing about this record is JellyCopter’s spin, a somewhat unique blend of americana and country influences into an otherwise powerful indie arrangement. Bringing alternative sensibilities to classic sounds, they’re able to bring the best of the old and new on this record. The powerful and anthemic tunes like ‘Lost on the Way’ would be immense chorus lines with a live crowd singing along and rocking out to the delightful electric guitar solos that just spray on and on with such verve and dexterity. There’s also the more light-hearted and easy-going tunes that are poppy in theme and melody like ‘You Won’t Break My Heart Again’ that’s just good natured fun and filled with a central expression and melody that any listener would find some solace in. Jangling acoustic melodies on ‘Cowboy Song’ will have you feeling like you can take on the world with nothing by your side.
From back to front, filled with engaging and exciting vocal harmonisations, simple and addictive acoustic driven riffs, and loaded with electric guitar solos alongside crashing drum work, this is a rock and roll fan’s delight.
