Lachyo’s debut album sees the evolving singer-songwriter explore an interesting chasm between indie rock and alternative folk sounds on a wholly cohesive yet constantly surprising ten track LP. The guitars are loud, booming, and filled with a level of pomp and splendour that has you constantly enamoured by the grandeur of it all. Opening with a track as bright and in your face as All The People immediately grips your attention. There isn’t a moment of the song being lull, almost instantly echoing in your face with this large chorus line that sweeps you away. It’s so enjoyably addictive, immediately giving me enough reason to start listening onward to explore what new blends he has in store for his listeners.
‘Get Up’ feels like a much more pop driven song, an almost indie/emo rock tune that has that rising quality to it. It’s the kind of song you want to bang at the top of your speakers volume as you’re feeling yourself sinking into your own angst within the confines of your bedroom. As that chorus line kicks in, you want to sing at the top of your lungs and achieve some sense of catharsis alongside Lachyo’s own powerful cries. There’s a remarkable scope of differentiation across this record, an entire assortment of different styles all within this unique confluence of pop, country, and rock music all at once. The loveable and affable ‘Way To Kiss You’ feels so entirely distinct from the much more mellow and restrained atmospheric track that is ‘Screaming in the Night’.
Lachyo has a voice that really sets him apart from a lot of his contemporaries. He’s doing something that’s definitively and wholly unique in the sonic approach of each of his tunes that’s bound to perk the ears of anyone with an inkling to guitar driven pop rock music.
