From Rochester N.Y come a three piece rock outfit on a mission to bring back grunge music. With a visceral energy, a raw and raucous sense of arrangement, and an undeniably raw and gritty style, they’ve got bundles of swagger and a point to prove. Jangling guitars, slightly washed over vocals that oscillate between slightly whiny and enraged, and crashing drums all combine into one large frenzy of noise that starts from Catsup Packet until it finally gives way on ‘In My Way’. It’s a furious record without a shadow of doubt, one that’s bound to be an ideal listen when you’re stressed and in the need to hear something that’s just going to organically bring up feelings of angst within.
I really started to get into this record on ‘Mealworm’, a tune that reminded me so much of the Nirvana records I grew up on. From the riff to the performance, it exudes that energy that had me feeling nostalgic for the rage I once harboured. Of course, the record as a whole doesn’t really bring out nostalgia as an emotion. Few if any of the songs are really the kind that are going to keep you reminiscing or looking back with rose tinted emotion. It’s an emotional ride, but one that harbours a degree of anger and passion that’s bound to rouse you and wind you up with full verve.
If you’re feeling ‘Probably Fine’, but probably aren’t, this is an outlet that’s definitely underrated.
