‘a curse undone’ is a classic waiting to be enshrined. This monumental ballad, so well written, so exquisitely harmonised, and so intricately arranged is a shining light in Americana music today. It’s old-school at heart, sticking to the roots rock ethos behind its theme and emotion with such passion and dedication. The song is a spiralling and grandiose tale of betrayal, loss and redemption, all of which meet a timely and satisfying conclusion by the time its lengthy and winding road closes around seven minutes later.
The mesmerising acoustic twangs coupled with a narrative that’s grippingly intoxicating from back to front makes ‘a curse undone’ a treat for the ears and a ballad that’s more than the sum of its parts. I found myself completely swept away, unable to turn away for a moment from the story and the beautifully melodies on display. A true Americana piece done immensely well.
