Pullstring surely know a thing or two about riffs. ‘The Only Thing’ opens with a punchy and melodic vice grip of a riff that just completely captivates you from the second it starts to roll into the song. Bringing out a unique medley of alternative rock alongside a more melodic and grounded indie sensibility, the Minneapolis based group has a style that’s quite definitively their own while also bringing out core foundational rock and roll. On ‘The Only Thing’, they’re able to so expertly and evocatively this confused sensation of falling off, drowning, and losing everything around you but still being guided forward and kept in a strong place through holding onto that one person who makes everything around you make sense.
There’s a spark, a darkness, and a warmth that holds it all together. It’s a deeply emotional song, carried by the sheer flair behind the guitar and the pain behind the vocal performance.
