Vidorra – Green for Go

“Green for Go” opens with one of the most exciting, fun, and up-tempo singles on “Your Birthday”. It’s a spritely mixture of electronic pop music but with a healthy dose of the auto-tune driven contemporary hip-hop style that gives it a sound that’s fresh and timely but also wildly differentiated and unique all at once. The entire record feels like an explosion and exploration of creative freedom in the most imaginative and endearing way possible. Vidorra is liberal with his use of autotune and beat choices, constantly innovating more intriguing ways. “Pizza” takes the record down a notch, a bop that takes the tempo a tad bit more mellow to escape from the sheer euphoric high that you’re hurled into on the opener of “Your Birthday”.

But I find my favourites a few tracks in, especially on the absolutely blissful slow moving ballad of a hip-hop jam that is “Here We Go Again”. Here, Vidorra really expresses his flow capabilities, enjoying his strength as a rapper as much as a producer. On “What’s The Dream”, he makes a much more subtle pop song, a supple vibe that’s very easy going and lackadaisical.

There aren’t two songs that sound the same on “Green For Go”. It’s constantly changing shape, permeating into different pieces that offer increasingly unique perspectives and innovative soundscapes. It’s as diverse as an electronic project can be, often deviating between genres and spaces at will and within a single piece itself. With pieces like “Upside Down” being totally dance oriented and others being slow moving lo-fi hip-hop pieces, it’s clear that Vidorra is also finding his own sound. But, what’s undeniable is that he’s a ridiculously talented producer and song-writer.
