With one of the most touching and emotional opening acoustic chords, Higgs Field really has you reliving the mood and melody of the 90s on “Us Forever”. A lovely infusion and confluence between the more appropriate emo rock that its theme belies to the darker grunge sound that it soon descends into, “Us Forever” is a love song that perhaps shouldn’t be taken as a loving one. Starting seemingly innocuous enough, the song’s perspective soon has you realising that you’re hearing the inner psyche of a serial killer’s obsession and descent into derangement. It’s perhaps why the sonic choices, the unique interplay between melodies and vocals that sound like a mixture of dark and light work so well to disguise it on a first listen.
Gritty and perhaps disturbed even, but intriguing and infectious nonetheless, “Us Forever” is something any 90s grunge fan would delightfully hit replay on.
