Few songs get the topicality of being in your 20s as accurately and strangely poignantly as Arliston does on their effortlessly smooth indie pop anthem “Pisco Sours”.
The song is a moody, introspective track that explores the feeling of being stuck at a party and reminiscing about a past relationship. Featuring a captivating soundscape that shifts from distorted electronics to gentle piano chords, accompanied by Jack’s emotive vocals, there’s a strange wistfulness and anxiety that’s conveyed that so vividly traces back to that same confusion and state of limbo when you’re at a party you don’t want to be at.
The lyrics convey a relatable struggle of longing for something that’s not there, while also acknowledging the unhealthy nature of idealizing the past. With a magical blend of 80s-inspired percussion and dreamy synths, there’s this immense nostalgic and cinematic quality, that has you immediately transported to one of those formative parties in your life.
“So what do you think, it is early in the evening, in the evening, to escape”. It’s such a powerful and relatable expression.
Definitely, one of my favourite tunes all year so far.
