Steve Sperry – Then and Now and Now is Then

Across its half an hour runtime, Steve Sperry explores so much sonically on “Then and Now and Now is Then” that each minutia of each track feels like an ear worm in and of itself. Juggling between moments of pure synth bliss to more experimental staccato experiences, the seven track largely instrumental EP is loaded with energy and flooded with so much in each arrangement that you’re headphones are continuously barrelled with a flurry of new sonic textures and experiences to immerse yourself within.

Opening with the furiously fun “Flying Under the Ben Franklin”, the Philadelphia based producer relays you with one of the most fast paced and starry openings you’d be blessed to engross yourself in. It’s ecstatically fun, the kind of fiery and super paced. As he transitions into more experimental moments like “The Moon Room”, that distinct video game soundtrack energy starts bleeding through with such radiant energy. It’s a sheer sonic delight from back to front, a wholly electrifying experience that radiates from top to bottom as you find yourself almost hypnotised by the minutia in each tune.

Songs like “Bad Things Happen in Philadelphia” take the entire style down an entirely different zone, an almost unnerving and wildly experimental approach that thrives on vocal samples alongside chops and these ominous beats that just unleash themselves onto you into an almost rave worthy banger.

For dance and rave enthusiasts and DJ’s alike, this record is filled with gems ontop of gems to add to your mixes and playlists for the next get together. There’s something so unique and clutter breaking with Steve Sperry’s style that makes it all the more engrossing and engaging. It’s a wildly fun experience without a doubt.
