Adam Tilzer, a Staten Island-based producer and engineer, proudly presents Cult Classics Vol. 2, his latest tribute album dedicated to the legendary David Bowie. This project is a follow-up to his successful Cult Classics Vol. 1 and features a diverse lineup, including a majority LGBTQ+ roster, reflecting Bowie’s own boundary-pushing spirit and his impact across multiple genres.
Tilzer’s deep admiration for Bowie began in his childhood, sparked by the iconic film Labyrinth. As he delved deeper into Bowie’s vast and varied discography, the idea of honoring his legacy through a tribute album became irresistible. “David Bowie was the obvious choice for volume 2 because his music spans all genres across six decades,” says Tilzer. “It was a perfect choice to tribute.”
On this track, alongside the help of Jordan Popky, the duo attempt to repaint one of the most iconic and powerful pieces of work from Bowie — Space Oddity.
They’re able to replicate that gravitas, that tension, and that sheer bewitching feeling that kicks in from “ground control to major Tom”. The vocals are a definitive highlight, subtle yet keenly powerful. The overarching soundscape also captures the various ambient aspects of the song, giving it that larger than life cinematic feeling. It’s a remarkably rich retelling.
