There’s an almost childlike sense of happiness that I can’t help but feel when songs belt out a letter by letter sing along. Alex Ohm’s Joy is unabashedly optimistic, to the point that it can be aggravating. It wears you down by the minute till you can’t help but feel the same energy and resolute defiance to find the good in the world. J O Y sings Alex as a beautiful meld of folksy indie rock instrumentals combines to set the mood.
On the track Ohm said, “I think it’s the happiest song I’ve ever written! I usually tend to write with some sort of underlying synoecism in my songs, but this is a real feel good, summer song.’
‘I wrote it in the midst of the pandemic but looking to the future. Imaging a time when restrictions and constraints have eases. It’s a song of hope and positive thinking.” Interestingly, in these seemingly bleak times, it’s been refreshing to see musicians turn the page and sing for better days instead of wallowing in melancholy. Escapism is almost essential for most of us, and now more than ever. Just being able to imagine better days, being able to hear a voice that has an honesty behind their dream of joy is heart-warming.
