Anthony Krizan’s brand of groovy blues rock is the kind of classical guitar driven melodic brilliance you’d come to expect from a man who’s co-written works with Lenny Kravitz. Sounding straight out of a time capsule, ‘Strawberry Wine’ doesn’t try to adhere to any modern conventions or stylistic choices to make itself known. It’s decidedly old-school, but loaded with soul and funk for days. The sheer charisma with which he sings, strawberry wine is enough to make any fan of rock and roll fall head over heels in love.
It’s driven by swagger, a retro vibe brought to life by a musician who knows how to put together a mainstream hit while still retaining that authentic blues rock essence. The guitar work is simply sublime, but it’s perhaps the charisma behind the vocal performance that really gives Strawberry Wine its edge. As a diehard fan of Kravitz, this track was a sheer delight.
