An absolute whirlwind of a tune, Franco- American duo Antisolar’s latest single ‘Drifting’ investigates and explores the loss of a friend to a path that’s invariably going to lead to their own self implosion. Describing in particular a best friend’s descent into meth addiction, Drifting is seething and intense. It feels loaded, caked and carved out of an emotional moment and journey that sees the song’s narrator grappling with a painful and seemingly helpless situation as they watch someone close to them deteriorate and fall into an inescapable abyss.
The instrumentation across Drifting is roaring, incorporating a whole host of electronic elements alongside more gritty and punchy melodies and percussive sounds. It’s carried however by a steering and guiding vocal performance that sets the tonality and emotion of the entire piece. The song’s final moments, which include a small spoken word intermission before the chorus comes crashing back down is an undeniable highlight.
