With an opening that comes crashing on you in waves, ‘You Resurrect Me’ is an absolute juggernaut of an alternative rock piece that doesn’t spare its punches whatsoever. It follows a formula that’s been expertly perfected over the years, but hits every required note with such a pointed precision and such a grandiose sense of scale that you can’t help but drown in the overwhelming instrumentation, the emotive vocals, and the highs and lows through its duration. For a duo, Olivier Raynal and Andrew Doolittle, who are split between Paris and LA each, the sheer attention to detail throughout this composition is itself worth noting for the difficulty that would have.
Their latest tune is a defiantly anthemic alternative rock certifiable banger, with a chorus that soars before it lulls and has you transfixed throughout. The song captures the feeling of despondency and heartbreak at the end of a painful breakup, as well the feelings of rebirth and resurrection at the onset of a new one. It’s somehow loud, but soft, with an emotional anchor that makes the crashing guitars and electronic flair all that much more enjoyable.
It’s a deeply personal song to Olivier as it represents a moment in time where he felt all was lost and a single moment turned it around. It’ll inspire you to feel the same when you’re at your lowest.
