Raucous, audaciously original, and just brimming with enthusiasm and swagger, Bad Blood’s ‘A Birthmark on My Hip’ is a rollercoaster of a tune that feels like an expression that couldn’t come from anywhere but England. The song starts in overdrive with its seemingly random and out of place titular line before the more quaint melodic arrangements start to give the piece some semblance of structure. The chorus, ‘let me teach you’ becomes a loop you can’t get out of your head. It really harkens you back to some of the alternative indie rock artists of the late 00s who were coming out in droves from Britain. An unexpected revival that’s wickedly fun.
