The first solo release from Bineal, part of Sydney based Adaptors, is an immediate earworm. Funky, groovy, and delectably slick, ‘Maybe’ sees the singer-songwriter displaying the full breadth of his versatility through seeming simplicity. Although avowedly and obviously poppy in tone and substance, ‘Maybe’ is dexterous at its core. The song moves through multiple stages with a delicious bridge thrown in that really highlights an electric guitar solo. But the strength of ‘Maybe’ is perhaps best experienced in the continual and ever increasingly intricate solo vocal harmonies that Bineal is able to endlessly carve out.
Far from the more mundane and standard soft and achingly emotional style that a more mellow singer-songwriter track would deploy, ‘Maybe’ is energetic, fun, and ever enjoyable. It’s indie pop done right, mixing style and suavity with melody.
