I find something so conceptually intriguing and endearing with what Bineal Roy brings to life on “Olden Eyes”. The Sydney based singer-songwriter creates something that’s subtle and inspiring with equal measure and poise. It’s a supple song about relationships and connection, but one with a fantastical touch that gives it so much more weight and purpose. Olden Eyes bases itself on the premise that we live across lifetimes, changing forms and places in each one. But, there’s something that remains constant through these shifts — our eyes. That piercing connection you sometimes feel when you see someone for the first and exchange a moment of powerful eye contact can be tracked back to our relationship with that person in a past life.
Sentimental? Perhaps, yet it’s a concept I’d like to believe in. There’s a romanticism to the whole arrangement that just adds to that emotional weight of the song and helps the message come out even more resplendently. Poignant and touching.
