With a flooring synth introduction that floods your ears, Braulio Cruz’s ‘Motel 6’ grabs you by the neck and covers you in a lustrous and starry soundscape that sounds like something out of the future. The New York based electro pop artist is an expert in his brand of technological, almost robotic sounding music that still manages to find itself with so much emotional depth. Motel 6 draws its themes and inspirations from a first-person perspective on immigrating to the United States at a young age and the effects that had on Cruz.
The entire record echoes some sort of starry eyed nostalgia and dreamy skies. It feels cinematic, reverberating in your ears entire visions of yesterday while sounding like a capsule from tomorrow. There’s something fantastical about Motel 6, something that leaves you feeling a tiny bit sad but also wholly amazed for what could come.
