Grandiose, immense, and deeply cinematic, Carl Liungman’s “Change” is an epic record by all stretches. Yet, a pure play piano piece rarely inspires such description does it? But what Liungman so successfully does is create these soundscapes that are so rich with the piano alone. There’s an opulence to his compositions, a larger than life sense of scale he’s able to evoke with these melodies that is so innately peaceful yet also stirring when it needs to be. From the first few sections of “Mother” alone, you’re immediately hurled into this world of wonder and abandon that completely enraptures you throughout.
It is piano music done blissfully and majestically throughout.
