I find Carnival Mind to be one of the most misunderstood and underappreciated acts out there today. The everyday nature of their lyrics, the simplicity behind the arrangement, and the wonderful vocal harmonies that they seem to so effortlessly dole out song after song is truly the stuff that I crave to see from songwriters. Somewhere Down The Line ranks as perhaps one of my favourite songs of last year and I still find it on rotation in my playlists.
On ‘King of Hearts’, the acoustic melodies feel more intricate, a bit more dexterity on show. The harmonies and melodies on the vocals are as on point as ever. It’s just good natured music, pure and timeless in every sense of the word. That chorus line about once being on top of the world and crashing from that zenith feels so painful and agonising, but ever so relatable to anyone who feels like they were right at the top and now things feel just a bit more lost and miserable.
I can’t help but always find myself caught up in my own mind when I listen to these guys and I really implore you to give them a spin. It’s well worth your time, they’re simply fantastic.
