Sung and performed with pain in every note and remembrance peetered across, Copperstone’s ‘My Old Friend’ is a sweepingly nostalgic journey of loss, friendship, and love. Written and dedicated to a loss incurred by the band’s guitarist, the alternative folk tune takes a simple guitar melody and weaves a memorable and touching narrative. It’s narrative based song, a tune that tells you a story about the singer’s relationship with the piece of his affection. It’s hard not to breakdown a bit while listening, empathising with a teary eye towards the song’s end. There’s buckets of warmth in the song, perhaps elevated exponentially towards the track’s end when the piano starts to really shower you with feelings of elation amidst an uncontrollable sadness.
Deeply touching, don’t play this if you aren’t ready to shed a few tears.
