Crash World – So The Story Goes

Ever the pleasure for any fan of classic rock music, Crash World don’t disappoint on their latest release ‘So The Story Goes’. The Vancouver based duo are here with their debut record, a collection of Americana tunes that has a slew of covers alongside the originals of their own. With each tune being devilishly spun into their own stylistic backdrops, Crash World offer something wholly different for anyone who’s going through some of the classic tunes that they’ve chosen to flip on their head. Their distinctive but nostalgic sound is able to mix and mesh the poetic with the moderate and mundane into something that’s just innately catchy and addictive while still being loaded with so much depth in the arrangements and the harmonies.

Kickstarting with ‘Lucky One’, Crash World opens with a hybrid of a more nasally country with a blissful folk melody. It then moves into something a much more lively and addictive with the pop inspired ‘Radio’ before descending into a more melancholic and contemplative ballad on “Tail Lights Fade”. The covers never fail to be a delight to uncover, with my personal favourite coming on their unique spin of The Rolling Stones’ classic “Sympathy For The Devil” with a dark and dreary overtone that seems ominous yet perfectly appropriate.

There’s never a dull moment on ‘So the Story Goes’, with almost an unending supply of new and exciting tunes, either spun differently or wholly original delivered by a duo who have a refreshing approach to penning down folk music for today.
