Boisterous, loud, and altogether rock and roll, Danielle Bloom’s version of ‘I Am Woman’ is a defiant piece of roaring rock music. Compared to the original, which is much more pop driven and soft, the subtlety of Helen Reddy’s version is replaced with an empowering and rousing anthemic feeling that Bloom delivers with power and verve. It’s a celebration of female empowerment, an enduring feminist anthem that’s been revived into something that is much more obviously anthemic and roaring.
Coming from the family of a Preacher, Danielle Bloom still decided to pursue her dreams of being an out and out rock star. Although she began as a choir girl in the church, it wasn’t long before she shed those robes to don the garb and attire of a modern rock superstar. I Am Woman feels like a moment, a moment for Bloom to claim her place amidst the rock scene while paying homage to the artists before her. It’s scintillating.
