Prolific conscious hip-hop artist Dax has already made more than a name for himself with his unique freestyles and introspective storytelling across his catalogue. Consistently using his platform and music to share stories of vulnerability and struggles, his latest tune ‘Depression’ is no different. Dax has always been one to wear his heart on his sleeve, constantly sharing with his loving fans the hardships and internal struggles he’s constantly grappling with. ‘Depression’ sees him discuss his constant ups and downs, the heaviness that the disease bears on your mind, the constant negative thoughts that spiral in your head, and the consequent brash and harmful decisions you see yourself falling into over and over again.
The song is a lot more melodic than most, opting for a much more singing based approach. Everything from the literal diagnosis, the medication, and the feeling itself is brought to life in this explosive and touchingly vulnerable piece. The chorus is bound to stick in your head, an addictive melody that many can empathise with. As always, he brings a slew of flows to the table showcasing his lyrical skills and constant improvements in delivery from song to song. Dax is moving to strength to strength as a musician and I wish him all the best in fighting a struggle that far too many do so in complete silence. It’s brave and hopefully helps others talk about their own struggles.
