A narrative based hip-hop tune that utilises the times we live in, the pains of the pandemic and the fear of increased infection rates, Dinoeesus’ ‘COVID-23’ takes down a hypothetical future we know too well and don’t want to see returning anytime soon. The song tells the story of 2 unlikely heroes who walk out of a Pittsburgh recording studio one night to see a TV news broadcast blasting through a shop window of a new outbreak of the Coronavirus and what that means for the people. It has that dystopian aesthetic down to a tee, a political tune that dives headfirst into controversy with a sardonic tone to it all.
I can’t say I agree with the chorus line, but perhaps that’s all done in jest anyway. An interesting, thought-provoking, if not entirely provocative tune.
