Prolific, storied, and accomplished, there isn’t much that Dylan Tauber hasn’t done or gone through in his over two decade long musical career. The electronic whiz, currently stationed in Israel, is now out with his fifteenth electronica album. ‘The Lagoon’, like the rest of Tauber’s catalogue, is an experience to immerse yourself in wholeheartedly. It feels marine, almost carrying with it the energy of the sea, of water, and of immersion itself. The way the vocals are arranged against the rest of the composition lends a rather ethereal and hazy quality to it all.
Opening with ‘Please Stay’, the album doesn’t really waste time building to a flow state. The opening record almost immediately kicks into gear, taking you underwater amidst its laser focused electronica energy. It’s the kind of mellow, consistent, and complex array of melodies and beats that has you in a state of zen. ‘Dance for Me’ continues that perpetual pitter patter driven melody with a consistency that has you in a state of bliss that’s hard to pull yourself out of. On ‘Cyber Spirit’, you’re perhaps thrown into the most surrealist and otherworldly composition of the lot. The entire three minutes feel like a dream, a hazy memory that you can’t help but yearn to experience again and again.
Towards the records latter half, you start to find yourself absolutely transfixed with the style on ‘The Lagoon’. While songs like Heaven on Earth and Hold My Hand embody a more traditional EDM energy and feeling, ‘The Mermaid’ has you absolutely engaged by its hauntingly beautiful air.
If you’re a fan of down-tempo techno music, ‘The Lagoon’ is an absolute joyride from back to front. It’s a magical vibe that Dylan Tauber continues to create, giving each record of his such a distinctive feel and energy that’s consistent yet sonically diverse enough to keep you intrigued for more with each passing track.
