Described as a ‘high voltage’ rock band, Norwegian five piece Electric High are indeed bringing swathes of energy bound to jolt you awake. Inspired by the godfathers of hard rock like Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, as well as more modern groups like Wolfmother, they sound wildly different than the rest of today’s rock music crop. And, I mean that in the best way possible. ‘Reach Of Your Love’ is the purest form of head-bang worthy rock music. Loaded with catchy hooks, unforgettable riffs, and rustic vocals, the five track EP is a beacon of light in a rather dim landscape for hard rock.
What I love most about this album is just feeling how much Electric High themselves adore classic rock music. You can hear their passion and respect for the forefathers of this genre in each chord and lyric. ‘Rock Classic’, the fourth track on the album, quite explicitly outlines this same feeling. It’s a love song, but one made for the thrill and experience of live rock music, for the highs of going on stage in front of a crowd and playing the magic of loud rock ’n’ roll. Especially today, with most of us going more than a year without any semblance of live music let alone a fully fledged concert, it hits very close to home.
There’s not a dull moment to be had on this album. From the opener and titular track, you’re not given a moment to lull. Reach of Your Love is speared by an incredibly up tempo and high energy riff and drums. The song uses moments of silence to make the jumps back into the music that much more impactful. It also features a delectable scream that’s bound to perk the ears of any metal and hard rock lovers. ‘Reproducing Man’ is probably my favourite piece on the album. The head bang worthy riff is only bested by a chorus that has you singing along at the top of your lungs. It’s sung with such fervour, but also with a beautifully restrained harmony.
If you’ve been aching for a new piece of rock music to delve into, look no further. Fans of Greta Van Fleet, Wolfmother, or any other hard rock outfit will be delighted to come across Electric High. The Norwegian rockers are as talented as they are true to their mission. They love hard rock, and they’ll make sure you love it to. ‘Reach of Your Love’ is far too fun to miss out on.
