Enlisting the talents of rapper YT, ‘yoshi’ marks es.cher’s first foray into producing their own singles alongside a series of underground artists. es.cher’s style is unlike any other UK producer currently in the field. He uses distinctively wavy, spacy, and atmospheric beats but not the kind you’d associate with a dream pop piece. It’s not really relaxing, more transporting and haphazard yet somehow still delivering a uniquely spiritual air to it. YT brings ‘yoshi’ to life though, with his iconic laidback flow and slow moving flow giving the entire track a lackadaisical and zoned out energy to unwind to.
yoshi becomes an introspective track, just for the entire arrangement almost forcing you to look inwards and contemplate life around you, and your place in it. It’s almost got a meditative energy to it, amidst the chaotic and kerfuffle in the background, it still manages to grasp your attention into a deep sense of concentration and contemplation. Chilled out, but chaotic. Truly, an imaginative piece of hip-hop.
