Orchestral and intricate, Eyes of Pandora’s self-titled debut record is an ensemble of alternative rock that’s towering and recorded with what seems to be a free flowing live session. The vocals can be jarring at times, mixed with a heavy dose of post on them especially on the opening track “Welcome”. But this allows the record to create this moment of haunting desolation, coming to full fruition right before the second minute as the song ascends into this absolutely flooring crescendo. But as you move into the record, the vocal recording gets more palatable and in fact warm and soothing in parts.
Tracks like “Damaged” are the sheer pinnacle of what hard rock can be at its absolute best. It’s riveting, emotional, and absolutely electric while being so classic in its conception. Songs like Intentions, which is also home to one of the best electric solos on the whole record, are the most exceptional pieces of the entire record.
It’s front to back a soaring piece of rock music, oscillating between moments of accessible pop rock to towering hard rock. A. powerful and riveting debut release.
