Fia Nyxx brings a style that combines and synthesizes elements of pop, rock, jazz, and soul into one flamboyant flourish of a record that’s loaded with impassioned lyricism and smooth blues influenced melodies. There’s a narrative across the album, a keen and astute sense of storytelling that Nyxx pays a lot of attention to. The production is immaculate as well, backed by musical directors who are renowned and successful. You feel like you’re hearing a rockstar in the making, an artist who definitively is carving out a lane for herself that’s going to break barriers and bring in a wave of listeners. ‘Red Umbrella’ is captivating, relatable, and filled with ear worms that refuse to leave.
The opening piece, ‘Still Love You’, is booming with a vocal performance that exudes passion and showcases a range to impress. The surrounding production work, shimmering with synth work makes for a booming bop of a pop song that will have you revelling, dancing, and jumping across. AEIU continues the poppy sensations that Nyxx is able to exude with the same level of continual emotional scale. The titular track perhaps highlights Fia’s range more than any other. A much more slowed down and immersive ballad, her vocals are allowed to comprehensively take centre stage. The production here is the most transcendental, the most airy, the most atmospheric. As she sings, ‘underneath the red umbrella’ and the beat drops, you feel completely swept away amidst the synth pop palette of sounds, a whirlwind that enraptures you entirely.
Vibrant, sultry, and seductive, ‘Red Umbrella’ shows a pop star in the making really innovating and expressing herself.
