With a guitar riff that will soon become distinctly recognisable, Francis Alban Blake’s shimmering and glistening indie rock harmonious piece ‘Blisters’ is a magical piece of power pop that’s a bit modern, a bit retro, and a whole lot quirky. But within it all, there’s a sense of deep nostalgia and euphoria that Blake is able to evoke so sincerely and emotively. ‘Blisters’ is a complete sonic showcase, an unravelling of a host of sonic elements in a singular piece that contains within it the simplest of melodies to the most intricate ones. There’s an intensity, an urgency, and an otherwise compelling sense of harmony and togetherness that he brings out.
You feel like you’re surrendering to who you are, accepting your inner self, and telling all the outward elements that might be holding you back to hold forth. You give into your most primal desires in the most accepting of senses. There’s an intensity to the arrangement that’s somehow wonderfully matched by how relaxed it also feels. A thoroughly impressive and endearing indie rock record.
