At just 15, Gabriella Salvucci made history at her label. The Pittsburgh based musician signing to Misra Records, made her the youngest artist to ever sign to the storied two decade old label with a host of success already under its belt. The immensely talented singer and songwriter’s first full length album, ‘Peace Offering’, is a testament to the vocal and composition talents of this burgeoning artist. Having penned the songs herself under the tutelage of stalwarts, she’s managed to come up with an immensely emotional resonant record that’s as easy to listen to as it is compelling in its narratives.
From the opening titular piece, you’re already put under the soothing spell of Gabriella’s ever so eloquent and evocative performance. With just minimalist instruments on the arrangement, you’re very focused in the way you’re pulled to the central themes of each piece. There’s always a narrative, a story, that Gabriella wants to express. The ever so relatable ‘Hopes Up’, a song that makes me feel about yearning for better days just hits you at your emotional core as she sings ‘I watched the planes fly by’. The piano work is simply exquisite, a very supple and subtle usage that does just what it needs to.
Perhaps the song that left me most singularly impressed by was ‘Mad Medusa’. Here, there’s a full structure that builds with intention and momentum from start to finish. Gabriella’s vocals and piano work are at their most sublime best. The way she softly sings ‘as they run away’ is a moment to remember. Showcasing a low voice and a falsetto, there’s simply so much range at her disposal. A songwriting talent to keep note of.
