‘Wolves/Little Lies’ is a beautifully serene piece of folk music that nails the basics of an excellent folk track in every conceivable way. Grand Alpaca, a singer-songwriter based out of Oslo, has a calming energy in his voice that makes for an altogether warming listen. It almost feels like a bedtime story told to you in times of dire stress, the kind of calming reassurance that you need to move on while feeling the warmth and comfort of home all around you. In terms of what it means, Alpaca’s track is a bit darker than the exterior might suggest.
At its core, the song is really about dealing with mental health as well as the fickleness and hardship that life instils onto us. Amidst it all, we yearn for everything to be okay, to the point where we just tell ourselves that its all fine even when everything might be crumbling around us. The noise is permanent and loud, and no matter how hard we try to turn it off, it can’t ever be escaped. Nonetheless, ‘Wolves/Little Lies’ does a great job in making you feel like its alright even when it might not be.
