Taken from their wonderful new indie rock record, Heartacher, ‘Safe’ is the ideal final touches and closing door on a sincere and endearing album. ‘Safe’ is the perfect curtain call, the moment on Heartacher where everything comes together. It harkens back, looks forward, and takes hold and attention to the moment where things took a turn for the better. Written from the perspective and moment after a horrific episode that pushed the writer to be flooded with suicidal thoughts, ‘Safe’ is about recognising how happy he is to just be here and to be alive. No matter how awful things get, no matter how bleak a situation feels, we’re blessed to be in the moment and to have a place in this world however significant or insignificant it maybe.
It’s the moment on Heartacher where you start to feel warmth, where you start to wholly enjoy and take sense of who you are. It’s painful but poignant. I feel that Heartacher takes you through a whole gamut of emotions and leaves you a more appreciative and emotive person by its end. None of that would be possible without the wonderful closure that Safe provides.
