Hannah Dorman’s ‘222’ is pop music infused with a whole lot more. Innately and inherently a catchy and infectious collection of five poppy tunes, the entire album has you singing along from back to front on each piece. Blending together elements of dance, rock, and punk, there’s an angst and an evocativeness that Dorman exudes with such effortless ease across the songs. It’s also meticulously mixed and mastered, a clean and crisp production that finds consistency throughout the record. The EP is co-written with Irish pop singer songwriter Ivon Roberts (2.7 million Spotify streams) and produced by Sam Ray (of the synth pop duo Friday Night Firefight.
Kickstarting with the fiery and rebellious energy of ‘Gasoline’, Dorman starts the album off with a vengeful yet chirpy tune that has you really emptying out all your angst. The catchy pop-rock tune is the perfect break up anthem when you’re feeling despondent and angry towards a relationship that’s gone south far too south and far too badly. The chorus line is ridiculously addictive, making you yearn for more bops as you play through. ‘Gullible’ turns the style into a completely different route, opting for a synth driven dance driven anthem instead. The song has elements of punk in it as well, with a scintillating guitar section in the chorus section. ‘No Boys Allowed’ has one of the more unique openings on the record, a ballad-esque hazy atmospheric production serving as the entrance to Dorman’s powerful vocal performance. The song builds with a fierceness and roar that has you singing along to the ‘na, na, na’ as your head bangs to the thumping arrangement. ‘Perfect’ is perhaps the album’s standout piece of pop music, a ridiculously infectious pop punk tune that has with it a universal message that encourages self-expression above all else. Closing out with a radically different tropical house single on ‘Fire’, Hannah Dorman shows her full gambit of talent on 222.
If this is anything to go by, there’s fields of talent that this emerging Surrey based artist possesses. A future pop star without a doubt.
