Isabelle PT, or IPT as she goes by, is a genre hopping London based musician who’s finally out with her first solo record. On the Aquarian Mixtape, she continually seems to juggle between scintillating electronic pop and more measured alternative rock in a confluence that’s as astounding as it is composed. Having trained as a classical musician, playing violin, flute and piano from an early age, Isabelle brings an unusual perspective to bass and guitar composition, reflecting her eclectic musical influences She’s no stranger to anything from Metal to electronic, allowing her own tunes to combine into a sound palette that’s far from what normal conception would imagine it to be.
The instrumental project from IPT is ever so subtle, taking the minimal and minute from both ambient soundscapes to more broader rock and electronic ones together in a confluence that’s vivid beyond imaginatin. On ‘Bird Music’, where Isabelle quite effectively uses sounds from birds, the tune’s final minute incorporates a slew of electronic synths that give the piece a dreamy and atmospheric feeling that has you floating in the clouds to the soundtrack of songbirds all around you. There’s a ton of direction behind each piece of this record, a measured and astute approach that allows Isabelle the ability to have each of her instrumental tunes be almost overflowing with imagery.
Her multi instrumental background and continued participation in a few differing musical projects definitely shines throughout this mixtape’s own eclecticism. Despite the diversity in style across the record, the overall project aims to evoke a coherent sense of location, inspired initially by the feeling of a long, hot summer’s day turning to nightfall as the EP progresses.
One of the more vivid, warm, and expressive pieces of instrumental music you can expect this winter.
