Jack Tracy’s thirteen track opus ‘Gold’ is a landmark record in the commercial pop and dance space. The absolutely electric New York City artist brings out fiery beats, infectious choruses, and a sheer presence and swagger that has you moving to virtually every tune on this album. Opening with the rave worthy anthem that is ‘Fire’, you’re thrown into Gold with a piece of electronic pop that demands movement, dance, and partners. What’s refreshing about Fire and the rest of the pieces on the album is the level of uniqueness that Jack Tracy decides to set himself apart with. Each song feels so authentically distinct from any other piece of electronic music out there. They all have a quirkiness to them, a swagger that’s resplendently delivered through Tracy’s suave vocals and a production style that’s decidedly wacky but strangely warm and addictive.
‘Magnetized’ isn’t as fast paced or as dance inspired as ‘Fire’, but it’s the track that fully had me enraptured with the project at large. More experimental, filled with a multitude of sections, samples, an audio note, interesting highs and lows in the production, and a crescendo in the final few seconds that’s just pure bliss inducing, it is quite literally magnetic. ‘Independent Folk’ gets you back moving again with its fast paced and high octane beat. Never once does the music feel too in your face or loud. Each song constantly treads the right line between having the right kind of energy to have you moving but not so much so that it feels overwhelming or abrasive.
One of the most fun collections of electronic pop I’ve come across all year, Jack Tracy is bound to be an absolute ball to listen to live. I just know that every piece on this album almost necessitates listening together with more people. It needs to be experienced with one another and it will elevate itself hearing it live.
