Accompanied by a surrealist, slightly haunting and somewhat nostalgic video, Jacko Hooper takes you down a fantastical wonderland that’s equal parts creepy and wistful on “Getting No Place Fast”. The synth rock piece from this Brighton based artist is one of the most transporting pieces you’re going to hear this year so far. It takes you down a journey in your mind that’s hard to describe. It isn’t a singular experience, and each time I hear it I find myself feeling different things but constantly anchored by the same overall feeling of being trapped and stuck motionless in various spheres of life. The luxuriousness of the synth work is exceptional, having you feel like you’re ascending to some otherworldly heights while the more hushed and restrained nature of the vocal performance sort of brings you back down to earth in a more wistful way.
This is indie rock done so very well. Jacko Hooper is a force to be reckoned with and a name to watch out for in 2023.
