When I first heard Jacob McCurdy’s “Out On The Run,” I couldn’t help but be transported back to the days of cruising down the highway with the windows down and the wind in my hair. The acoustic guitar and crisp vocals are the perfect match for a long drive on a sunny day, a sing-along tune that’s sombre but nostalgic in droves. But it’s the addition of the trumpet solo that truly elevates the song to a whole new level.
As the track progresses, you find yourself lost in the story being told through the ever so delectable vocal melodies that Jacob McCurdy harmonises over. There’s something about the vulnerability of the arrangement that McCurdy creates that makes you feel like you’re right there in the moment, experiencing everything he is. The falsetto as he sings falling for you is so effortlessly beautiful. The Life is a journey, and sometimes you just have to take the leap and believe in yourself.
It’s larger than life and indulgent in its romanticisation, but that’s precisely the kind of music you’d be looking for to chase some inspiration.
