Jake Love has style. That much is immediately evident on ‘Someone, Anyone’. The sleek Auckland based indie pop artist has production that just oozes swagger back to front. The Jake Love chants, in the incredibly low robotic voice in the chorus make sure that point is known and heard loud and clear. The self described wannabe cool goofball definitely has a playfulness to his style, embodied by his tongue in cheek lyrics, slick artist tag, and off the wall arrangements. The hooks are playful and cheery, drawing inspiration from a Prince or Gorrilaz in style.
What makes Love’s latest single particularly appealing is his suaveness. It’s not your average indie pop tune, veering quite far from traditional elements that you’d expect. It has droves upon droves of substance, a driving bass, and a chorus that’s so confident that you can’t help but replay it over and over again in your head. Expect a whole lot more imagination and innovation in his sophomore EP due in 2022.
