A bit of Black Sabbath, a bit of funk, Jean Cabbie and The Secret Admirer Society are definitively classic rock reimagined for a modern age. There’s a whole lot of Ozzy Osbourne in the vocal performance, an undoubted highlight for a devout fan like myself. But on Paper Doll, it’s not really a pulsating aggression as much as it is a smooth and funky piece of alternative rock that has you grooving out rather than venting. The guitar work is sublime, easily serenading you with the solo that comes in towards the track’s latter half.
A group that’s clearly got style by the buckets, Jean Cabbie and The Secret Admirer Society would definitely be a treat and a half to see live. They’ve got a penchant for crafting addictive pieces of classic rock with choruses that live long in your head alongside powerful and sleek guitar work that merely adds to the flair and panache of their arrangements.
Paper Doll is a definitive highlight and listen for any classic rock fan.
