A fun and light-hearted summery rock track, Jesse Grossi’s cheery piece of California indie rock is infectious as hell. Harmonious vocals and simple but delightful melodies alongside self aware and self deprecating lyricism, it’s a loner anthem unlike any other. It revels in its degeneracy, is defiant in its loneliness, and hilariously lambasts the entire façade of socially imposed societal structures around us. But Grossi’s best part is in his ability to takes something seemingly dark and depressing and flip it into an anthem to cheer for. It’s got that emo rock energy down to a tee, while maintaining an instrumental arrangement much more in line with modern indie rock.
Outcast is a song about thinking outside the box and creating your own identity, it embraces what makes us unique and different with such gleeful energy that you feel obliged to do the same. Screw the naysayers, what makes us different is what us who we are.
