A whimsical piece of guitar driven indie pop that just exudes a quaint and supple energy, KellyMarie’s ‘Exit 17’ can’t help but leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. The infectious pitter patter of the riff alongside the hypnotic riffs and swooning chorus are anchored by KellyMarie’s powerful but restrained vocal performance. When the drums start to kick into gear after the first chorus, you’re wholly immersed into the song’s world. It feels like a song from the soundtrack of 500 seconds of summer and that’s perhaps the best way I can describe the energy and ethos of the song’s feeling. Rarely do I come across a tune as immediately able to put me at such a serene and blissful ease as ‘Exit 17’ does. The final section, where the guitar starts to expand and the vocal harmonies become more layered is the perfect unwinding.
