It’s always refreshing when an artist’s debut singe immediately makes you raise an eyebrow. kibbokid’s announced himself with such style, uniqueness, and fun on “Follow The Leader”. The rather meandering yet addictive tune is infectiously groovy, filled with a funky energy that’s simultaneously nostalgic and old-school yet also something so wildly innovative that it can’t not be futuristic or forward thinking. With quirky and sardonic lyricism centred around a poppy and upbeat tempo, the song decries both our fascination with finding heroes out of nothing. It also tears down these false prophets and their wildly horrible methods to make the masses follow their lead.
I can’t recall a sound that’s even remotely like what Follow The Leader brings to life. It feels so fresh, so decisively fun, so filled with energy and sounds that you’re immersed in this wildly jumpy and peppy world as you sing along to its sarcastic battle cry.
Definitely, one of the top tunes of 2023 so far. kibbokid’s got a hell of a start going for him.
