I feel what’s most intriguing about Kind World is the story behind its conception and recording. The entire record was recorded over two decades ago, but shelved at the time. Then, when the world stood still during the pandemic, Kind World decided to put out these age old demos he’d finished in another lifetime. It’s therefore entirely unsurprising that the sound and emotion of this record almost wholly exudes and breathes such euphoric nostalgia. From a different sensibility altogether, there’s definitely a markedly unique approach to how the tracks are pieced together.
Of course, the entire album does sound a bit rougher, a bit more jagged around the edges than what you’d traditionally expect. Entirely comprised of demo tracks twenty years old is bound to do that. But, the loveable nature behind these vocal harmonies, a soothing and wholly imaginative array of soundscapes, and a loving interplay of folk melodies with dream pop arrangements all combine to give you a sound that was clearly ahead of its time when it was being developed. Amongst the record, there is one single that’s seen its development happen for this release itself. ‘Lonely’ follows suit from the rest of the record though, using a slightly wrapped over arrangement under more hushed vocals.
It’s a remarkably evolved sound given the time its recorded, somehow still sounding in place today yet retaining that emotional and nostalgic core that gives it that timeless sensibility. Hope to see Kind World continue producing in the near future!
