Through a unique confluence of sounds that don’t seem like they should work, Late Hala has developed a style of rock that’s intriguing from the word go. On ‘Dark Clouds’, the artist is at his cinematic best, weaving together entire soundscapes that are vivid in their imagery, bringing to life vibrant colour and landscapes merely through the shimmering production style that he employs. The melodies are innately catchy, but it’s in the constant to and fro that the production is imbued with that Hala differentiates himself. It’s never the same, never once constant in style or rhythm. Constantly evolving over its own runtime, Dark Clouds is experimental without sounding abrasive.
The London based songwriter, composer and multi instrumentalist works almost entirely on his own on the record, with the exception of drums, performed by Mathias ‘Bang’ Madsen. ‘Don’t forget to breathe’ becomes a refrain that you won’t soon forget.
