Few riffs somehow sound both classical and futuristic in one breadth. Maejis Mind has a way with the guitar, a way to bring spiritually transcendent riffs that give off feelings of pure elation. Vocals form the backdrop of his music, merely aiding that guitar on the front to do justice to the listener. On ‘What’s Worth It’, he turns the psychedelic nature of his music up by a thousand. But rather than let it be purely sedative and drowsy, he injects it with a verve that’s based in funk. The vocal melodies are a bit more on the foreground here, with a groove and swagger that can make most listeners bang their heads to.
In the second half, the guitars and vocal melodies move in sync to an absolutely resounding crash that’s wonderfully cathartic. Fans of both progressive rock and groove music will find something to cherish in ‘What’s Worth It’. There are few artists out there who are capable of making music that is as ‘trippy’ and infectious all at once.
